DROP IN TASTING WITH TWO PIEDMONT WINEMAKERS Friday, October 27th, 5pm - 7:30pm
When opportunity knocks, we answer! So of course we jumped at the chance to host not just one, but two historic Piedmont winemakers.
Join us this Friday to taste the wines of famed Barolo producer Fernando Principiano along with Colombera & Garella, Alto-Piemonte's pioneering, young estate. Both Giacomo Colombera (owner Colombera & Garella) and Nicolò Abellonio (director of Ferdinando Principiano in Serralunga) will be in shop, pouring a range of wines from their domaines. It's going to be a fascinating study of Nebbiolo: if you haven't experienced this noble grape's ability to transmit terroir nuance, this is your chance!
See you Friday!
Colombera & Garella
In the Alpine region of Alto-Piemonte, Colombia & Garella farms 9.5 hectares across the villages of Lessona, Masserano and Roasio. Here, using only the native red grapes of Nebbiolo, Croatian and Vespolina, they explore the stunning terroir that sits hidden within the Italian Alps. These wines are each wildly unique expressions of these one of a kind alpine soils at more than 350 meters above sea level. Terroir, minimal intervention in both the field and cellar combined with the skilled winemaking of Carlo Colombera and Cristiano Garella have yielded unparalleled wines that have drawn world-wide attention to this mountainous pocket of Piedmont.
While there are plenty of family wineries in the Langhe, Fernando Principiano stands apart. There's an etherealness, a litheness that is missing from so many Piemontese wines today. These are the Burgundy of Barolo. But what's equally as important, is the light handed touch in his vineyards. He's a staunch advocate for the environment, going beyond simple organic practices to preserving the forests next to his vines, including the biodiversity within. This is perhaps one of the most exciting producers in the Langhe, and we couldn't be more excited to carry these wines.
