Exclusive: 2018 Cascina Delle Rose Langhe Nebbiolo

Exclusive: 2018 Cascina Delle Rose Langhe Nebbiolo

How does one drink top-flight Barbaresco at a fraction of the cost? The answer is to drink a bottle of today's wine of course. This bottle is one of those hidden gems that over delivers for those who are in the know; a smaller production, under the radar gem and just the type of wine that I love to share with our clients.

Although labeled as a simple Langhe Nebbiolo, its' contents are anything but. The fruit is sourced from one of Barbaresco's top sites: the single vineyard of Tre Stelle. A truly beautiful wine defined by the earthy aromatics and perfumed flowers of classic Barbaresco with exquisite balance and detail. It's one of those elusive wines that is both concentrated and lithe simultaneously. A classic Nebbiolo I've sought for the shop since first tasting it during my early days at Morandi

Cascine delle Rose is a tiny 5-hectare estate in the heart of Barbaresco run by Giovanna Rizzolio and her two sons. As the name suggests, roses are found throughout the property, on the farm and in the vineyards. A pioneer for women in the region, Giovanna was one of the few female winemakers in Piedmont when her career began in the early '90s.

The steep, hillside vineyards are farmed organically and worked by hand. The wines spend extended periods of time in traditional Slovenian oak barrels. Above and beyond the exacting work in the vineyard, they also pay close attention to reducing their consumption of water, electricity, and energy; acknowledging the importance of sustaining Langhe’s landscape for future generations. The underlying philosophy at Cascina delle Rose is continuously based on achieving finesse and elegance.
100% organically grown Nebbiolo. The hand-harvested fruit is fermented with ambient yeast then aged in stainless steel to preserve aromatic intensity and purity of fruit.

A shimmering, translucent ruby color. The aromas are intoxicating: roses, cherries, raspberries, blond tobacco and star anise. The palate is a perfect balance of fruit concentration, cleansing acidity, and fine, silky tannins all combining to provide effortless intensity. Elegant and refined, world-class.
