Exclusive: Gilbert Picq Chablis Duo

Exclusive: Gilbert Picq Chablis Duo

If I lived in France, Gilbert Picq's wines would never make it to the United States. I would commit myself to consuming his entire production each vintage, that's how much I covet the wines of Domaine Gilbert Picq. If I need to impress someone, enlighten someone, or enliven a meal, I bring THESE wines to the table.

Today's wines, from the Premier Cru vineyard of Vosgros and lieu dit Dessus la Carrier are singular expressions of Chardonnay that simply can not be replicated in any other location. Both are two of the most impressive examples I have found to date: lucid, liquid transmissions of the chalky white soils that make this place so distinct. One of the last producers to utilize stainless steel alone, there is nary a whiff of oak in the entire winery.

The fact that prices have stayed so low are a testament to Picq's under-the-radar status, so I encourage you to take advantage of today's offer. It's only a matter of time before the prices catch up to Picq's reputation.

I am proud to offer the ONLY bottles of 2020 Domaine Gilbert Picq 'Vosgros 1er Cru' AND 'Dessus La Carrier' Chablis in South Carolina!

Domaine Gilbert Picq produces captivating, ultra classic Chablis from in and around the tiny, quiet village of Chichée. The family have worked this small collection of vineyards for several generations and today they are farmed by Gilbert's two sons, Didier and Pascal.

As their long time importer, Polaner Selections, explains:'The Picq style of Chablis displays the inimitable expression of minerality that Chardonnay picks up in these rolling hillsides of limestone-laden vineyards in the Yonne Valley, coupled with racy acidity and fine depth that comes with low yields, meticulous viticulture and winemaking.'
Chablis 'Vosgros' 2020  $59.99

100% Chardonnay from the oldest vines within the 1er Cru of Vosgros: a cool, low lying vineyard opposite the river to Montée de Tonnerre. The fruit is hand-harvested, fermented with ambient yeast and aged exclusively in stainless steel.

A lithe yet pungent nose of crushed oyster shell, lemon-lime, chalk dust, and a touch of quinine. The palate is direct, but not overly linear, with immense texture and salty minerals. There is an underlying power here that is unforgettable. Singing right now but will easily evolve over the next 6-10 years in the cellar.
Chablis 'Dessus La Carrière' 2020 $44.99

Sourced from fifty year old Chardonnay vines from a pair of plots that sit just above an abandoned limestone quarry. Always the first vines to be harvested, but the last to be bottled, they benefit from additional time in steel barrel.

Opens with intense yet perfectly defined aromas of iodine, wet stone, lemon and granny smith apple. The vibrant palate displays concentrated citrus and orchard fruit layered over chalky texture and bright, cleansing acidity. Utterly captivating and easily equivalent to a top Premier Cru.
