Holiday Countdown 2022 (DAY 5) - Remi Jobard Bourgogne Blanc 2020

Holiday Countdown 2022 (DAY 5) - Remi Jobard Bourgogne Blanc 2020

These are the top wines that stood out among the thousands of wines I tasted this year. Some are always in stock, some are rare and hard to find, but all of them are sure to fill you with joy this Holiday Season.
DAY 5:
If there is one major theme coming from the young, new guard in Burgundy today, it is white wines brimming with tension and vivacity. From the new generation at Bachelet-Monot to Chablis' Thomas Pico to today's Bourgogne Blanc from Rémi Jobard, these are wines that make your eyebrows raise and enliven your senses.

This wine goes light years beyond just a simple Bourgogne Blanc. Sourced exclusively from 6 organically farmed parcels in the village of Meursault, it's one of those wonderful little secrets in Burgundy: a wine that drinks like world-class Meursault at a fraction of the cost. This is pure Burgundian magic.

Rémi Jobard is the latest phenom in an old and storied Burgundian family. Son to Charles Jobard and nephew to Francois Jobard, he grew up learning from this legendary pair who inspired him to follow in their footsteps and take the helm at his family's domaine. Today, Rémi looks after 4 high altitude Meursault lieu dits, three of the top 1er crus, and a range of vines in both Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.

All of Rémi’s wines show a breathtaking clarity of terroir, which come from both impeccable farming and a simple hands-off approach in the cellar. When asked about his approach, Rémi says “We are very privileged to have great terroir in Meursault. Everything I do in the vineyard and in my cellar is [done to ensure] that terroir is transparent and completely unobscured.”
100% organically farmed Chardonnay from vineyards within Meursault. Hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Aged in barriques, 10% of which are new, as well as large, used oak barrels. Finished in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before bottling.

A classic Meursault nose of bright lemon curd, crisp apple, subtle spice and a touch of hazelnut. There is serious concentration, depth and tension on the palate, as salty minerals mingle with laser sharp citrus fruit and luxurious textures. This is world-class white wine.
