These are the top wines that stood out among the thousands of wines I tasted this year. Some are always in stock, some are rare and hard to find, but all of them are sure to fill you with joy this Holiday Season.   
DAY 9:    
It's time to have some fun. The Holiday Countdown this season has been chock full of serious, contemplative wines. The kind of bottles suited for leisurely dinners (or lunches), where the wine commands your attention as it unfurls and evolves over the course of an evening.

Today's wine switches gears a bit, to the type of wine I love to drink daily. This bright Rhône Valley Syrah is a cheerful, lifted and elegant take on the variety's inherently bold, dark fruits and peppery spice. Made by the young and energetic Julien Mary, who cut his teeth with Eric Pfifferling of L'Anglore, one of France's most iconoclastic domains. A vigneron credited for changing the pre-conceived notion of what Rhône wines can be.

Julien's time at L'Anglore is exemplified in this wine. It's concentrated and deeply flavorful while maintaining a spark of freshness that makes it an absolute joy to drink. This is my quintessential anytime, anywhere, pair with anything wine.

100% Syrah from 33-year-old vines planted on sandy, red clay soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in tank with native yeast using whole bunches. After aging in neutral French barrels for 8 months, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. 

Pours a dark, opaque color, but the wine is not heavy. The nose is full of juicy blackberries, fresh violet flowers, graphite and a touch of black olive tapenade. The palate is bursting with more concentrated black berry fruit and pretty Mediterranean herbs, but there is a wonderful streak of jubilance and energy here, making this wine as flavorful as it is fun to drink. 
Domaine de la Goguette sits in the Southern Rhône village of Collias, due just west of Avignon. Here, Julien and Lisa Mary organically farm 4 hectares of traditional Rhône varieties. While many have condemned the region as a place capable of only fat, tannic reds, Goguette is the opposite, making real wines with complexity and soul. Theirs are lighter, fresher expressions of these classic grapes, and are immensely drinkable.

With as little intervention as possible, Julien has made serious progress in changing the narrative around this historic wine region. This is a young domaine, and Monarch is thrilled to help tell their story.
