Primarily Nebbiolo blended with a touch of Vespolina and Croatina, as is the tradition in Alto Piemonte, organically grown at close to 2000ft in elevation. The grapes are hand-harvested, macerate for 20 days, and ferment separately with indigenous yeast in stainless steel and cement tanks. The wines are then blended and racked into used French barriques for 10 months before bottling and release.
An intricate nose of mountain strawberry, plum, tobacco, rose petal, porcini mushroom and baking spices. The palate's poise really struck me here, as did the aforementioned seamlessness: its silkiness combined with the voluminous density of flavor is really astounding. Juxtaposing dark berry fruit and earthy leather notes with gentle tannins and bright acidity. This is easily one of the best values in Italy.
