100% Melon de Bourgogne, from a south-facing hilltop site that gazes over the Maine river, mere kilometers from the North Atlantic coast. 60 year old vines planted on gneiss, a clear distinction from Pépière's other more granite-based cuvées. The wine spends 9 months on the lees in traditional, underground, glass-lined tanks before bottling, preserving the wine's inherent, piercing minerality while imbuing wonderful texture.
Lucid, detailed aromas of lemon, green pear, fresh fennel and raw almond with a clear iodine mineral note. The palate is classic Muscadet: taught, bright and thirst-quenching but with a deep and serious saline backbone. A traditional partner with oysters, but grab a few, as while it's supremely delicious right now, this wine is mind blowing after a few years in the cellar.
