Newsletter: Alain Burguet 'Les Pince Vin' Bourgogne 2022

If you're familiar with Burgundy, especially red Burgundy, you'll be familiar with the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. This historic appellation has been home some of the deepest, most profound red wines on the planet for centuries. It's distinct terroir transmits the darker, earthier, more muscular side of Pinot Noir.

Today's Bourgogne Rouge from brothers Jean-Luc and Eric Burguet is a testament to Gevery's richness, where the legendary village's intensity is evident upon the first sip. Lush and suavely textured, with classic, deep baritone fruits that meld into mellow earthy tones and invigorating spice. Though this wine comes from five separate parcels and is officially classified as 'Bourgogne', all the fruit is grown within the village of Gevrey-Chambertin.

An incredible value, this is a Bourgogne Rouge in name alone.

Today, I'm proud to offer the only bottles of 2022 Jean-Luc Burguet 'Les Pince Vin' Bourgogne in South Carolina!

100% Pinot Noir planted in 1960, 65 and 90 on Gevrey's distinct, heavy red clay and limestone soils. The organically farmed grapes are triple sorted to ensure only pristine fruit. De-stemmed and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel before being transferred to barrique (20% new), where the wine ages for 18 months before bottling.

A bold, almost brooding nose that's simultaneously pretty and refined. Opens with ripe red cherry, blackberry, baking spice, cedar, red flowers and a touch of sous bois. The luxurious palate is rich and lush, showing off the power of this mighty village. It's deep and concentrated with layers of dark berries and spice that cling to the palate long after the wine is gone. A brilliant, polished, near perfect red Burg.
Domaine Alain Burguet is the result of Alain Burguet's hard work, who started his estate from scratch in the 1970s, as his family were not vineyard owners: his father Yvon was a laborer in Gevrey-Chambertin, and Alain did not marry into a land-owning family. He slowly acquired a small amount of holdings and built a reputation for making some of the purest wines in the village.

His two sons Jean-Luc and Eric have been assisting their father since the 90s, but officially took over in 2011. Jean-Luc, in charge of winemaking, seeks to capture the essence of Pinot Noir by intervening as little as possible in the winemaking process. The grapes are harvested later than anywhere else in Gevrey to obtain healthy and fully ripe fruit, suitable for fermentation without additives.
