We try not to discount all the good stuff here at Monarch. Though we've sent out plenty of emails about amazing bottles, there are some producers, some releases we just can't bring ourselves to markdown. Yet for Father's Day this year, we've decided to offer up some of our most special bottles at an incredible price.
These producers may not be familiar to you, as they're a trio of very limited bottles: Cascina Baricchi, a legacy winery in Barbaresco that holds some of the last plantings of a rare, heritage Nebbiolo clone. Château Falfas, a stand out from Bordeaux's traditional, bygone era, with a long history of impeccable farming and long-lived wines. Finally, La Maison Romane, a young upstart in Burgundy with incredible connections whose already stunning us with his lifted, exquisitely elegant wines.
Each of these producers represent the some of the best Monarch has to offer, uniquely defined paragons of their respective regions.

Cascina Baricchi 'Rose delle Casasse' Barbaresco Riserva 2018

Made entirely of Nebbiolo Rose (not a rosé!), a near-extinct clone of Nebbiolo that is planted in the Casasse vineyard in Neive. The grapes are hand-harvested and ferment in stainless steel, but macerate for 30 days after fermentation is complete, balancing tradition with modernity. The wine ages in large, neutral botti for three years and bottle for two in order to reach riserva requirements.
Brooding but expressive, there's a level of tension not seen in many Barbaresco wines. Layers of blackberry fruit and tar are contrasted with delicate dried-rose petal, blonde tobacco and Ceylon cinnamon spice. The palate is refined and mellowed by the years of extra aging, delivering classic Nebbiolo power in a plush, silky frame. This is a showstopper, and the kind of wine to please anyone, anytime.

Château Falfas 'Le Chevalier' Côtes de Bourg 2016

A producer with rich history in Bordeaux, Château Falfas bucks the industrial farming trends of the region with biodynamics in the vineyard and über traditional winemaking. The 'Chevalier' is the estate's top wine, sourced from the oldest vines and held at the estate for extra aging. 35% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with Merlot completing the blend. Aged for two years in brand new oak, then bottled and aged in their cellars for six years before release.
Slick and bold, this is a baritone Bordeaux full of ripe black plum, creme de cassis, new leather, pipe tobacco and pepper. There's a firm, serious tannic structure that barely contains the intense notes of blackberry, graphite and rich, succulent texture. Open it early and decant thoroughly, this wine is for your best steaks only.

La Maison Romane, Bourgogne Rouge 2022

In 2005, Oronce de Beler started purchasing grapes for his small start-up in Nuit-Saint-Georges, from close friend Jeremy Seysses (of Domaine Dujac). Now with two decades of experience, his négociant project has moved to Vosne-Romanée and built up a significant reputation. This Bourgogne Rouge is sourced from biodynamically farmed vines in the Côte Chalonnaise. Whole cluster fermentation (à la Dujac) is followed by 18 months in used barriqe. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Deeper than your average Bourgogne, this effusive wine is rich with red and black fruit on both the nose and palate. There's pronounced accents of blackberries and violets with nuanced aromas of baking spices and earth. Managing to be both refined and powerful, this wine is tailored to produce elegant aromas and perfectly defined fruit. A wine that will make you fall in love with Burgundy (if you haven't already).
