Le Mas de Mon Père is a fairly new addition to our shelves having recently met winemaker Frédéric Palacios on a recent trip to the Languedoc. I absolutely fell in love with him and his passion for wine. He works with familiar varieties like Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, but it's his quest for purity that sets his wines apart.
Unlike the heavy, extracted wines that make up the majority in this area, Fréd vinifies exclusively in stainless steel, not a stave of oak can be found in his winery. It's his ability to transform these bold varieties into wines that retain their natural balance and freshness that is pure magic. Today's Malbec is exemplary, with concentrated fruits, silky tanins and lush textures. It's the perfect weeknight wine. |

100% Malbec, farmed organically on clay and sandstone. The hand harvested grapes ferment spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, with no punchdowns or pump overs to prevent over-extraction. Aged for a year in the same tanks then bottled un-fined and unfiltered.
A wonderful nose of black cherry, plum, violet, lavender and spice. The palate is flush with more juicy dark fruit and silky tannins. Fresh, crunchy, and supple, this is perfectly versatile and a bottle that brings bona fide joy to any occasion.

In Malpère, the most Western appellation of the Languedoc you find Le Mas de Mon Père. Here winemaker Frédéric Palacios crafts soulful, terroir driven wines from just 5.5 hectares spread over 7 plots. As a child he worked these vines with his grandfather and father, but only recenly has the region seen a growing recognition necessary to support winemaking.
Fred studied crop protection in college, but was not persuaded by what he learned in school. Here chemistry was king, and the solution was always to spray synthetics. Convinced that organic farming and a more natural approach were best, he set out to learn from some of the best, most forward thinking wineries in France. In 2005, his father invited him to back home to vinify on the family land, and Le Mas de Mon Père was born.
