Newsletter: Val delle Corti Chianti Classico 2019

Location, location, location. It's wine's most important factor. The world's most revered vineyards and wineries have gained their reputations because of the hallowed terroir from which their wines are born.

The opportunity to drink and share wines of such stature is a rare and special opportunity, but as the demand for these famous labels have soared, so have their prices. What is one to do? Lean on me. If you dig a little deeper, there are still tremendous wines being made in close proximity to these great plots. For reasons unknown, these neighboring wineries haven't garnered the spotlight (or price tag) of their more famous neighbors.

Today's wine is an insider's hidden gem. Tucked in the limestone hills of Radda, Chianti Classico's highest and most illustrious region, lies Val delle Corti, whose next door neighbor happens to be the Tuscany's Kingpin: Montevertine. This Val delle Corti Chanti Classico is Tuscan wine at its peak, boasting a beautiful and dazzling perfume, buttressed by earthy, savory balsam notes. Like Montevertine, Val delle Corti's wines take Chianti to its apogee.

Today I am proud to offer the only bottles of 2019 Val delle Corti, Chianti Classico in South Carolina!

95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo grown on a hillside mirroring Montevertine's legendary 'Le Pergole Torte' vineyard. Fermented with native yeasts and matured for two years in large Slovenian oak casks, followed by three additional months in bottle before release. It is neither fined nor filtered.

The aromas come pouring out of the glass after a couple of swirls: amarena cherry, blackberry, violet, thyme, sandalwood and a touch of mint. The palate is deeply layered with concentrated black fruit bolstered by terse limestone minerality and classic Sangiovese acidity. An intense and solid wine, without losing grace and depth. Chianti doesn't get better than this.
Val delle Corti lies in the heart of Radda, the 'Grand Cru' of Chianti Classico. It is on this magical spit of land where Roberto Bianchi tends to his four hectares of vines situated on some of the highest elevations in Chianti, farming both organically and bio-dynamically. Sharing the same rocky soils of chalk and marl as Le Pergole Torte, which lend his wines brightness, minerality and immense purity of fruit. Only the beauty of his wines surpass the landscape from which they come.
